Embarking towards Your Career Adventure: A Guide for Graduating Students

As the final year of undergraduate courses, such as BA, B.Com, and B.Pharm, approaches, many students find themselves contemplating their next steps. While some are clear about their path, others wrestle with dilemmas and confusion regarding their future. Often, the advice they receive from immediate family members adds to their uncertainty.

Recently, I had a client who was in the final year of her B.Com course. When asked about her specific career concerns, she shared,

“After graduation, the big question is what next ? To do job or study further. I received advice this from others,if you are going for job what you get will be more clerical related, like after your graduation if you are holding some master’s degree which has higher value, you can get a better job. So, i was in a dilemma what to do next”.  
She mentioned this was her first career counselling.

These uncertainties, if left unaddressed, can decrease motivation levels and even hinder exam preparations, adding to the stress of transitioning from college to the professional world.

Career Design Counselling sessions proved to be a turning point for her. They helped her reflect on her educational journey, address her interests, values, and goals, and provided her with course-specific information aligned with her aspirations. As a result, she was guided to make a well-informed decision to further her education.

At the end of the counseling process, she expressed a newfound clarity and confidence in pursuing her educational goals. She also mentioned that similar counseling sessions would be beneficial for college graduates who find themselves in a similar position.

In summary, the final year of undergraduate studies can be a challenging period of decision-making for many students. Seeking guidance and support, as demonstrated in this case, can help them navigate this critical phase and make informed choices that set them on the path to a successful future.
